Are our students sitting down too much? In traditional campus design, the classroom space is static—simply an area in which teaching and learning happens. Modern designers and pedagogues, however, treat space as a key determinant of pedagogies: forward-looking classroom design inspires innovative pedagogies, and thus cultivate future-ready students. With this in mind, our school is implementing a Tomorrow’s Classroom initiative next school year to modernize some classrooms....Places have personalities just like people. In our new vision, the classrooms will be welcoming and approachable: the way that the classroom works and feels will be very different. Combining functionality with flexibility, the future classroom blueprint creates an atmosphere in which students’ contribution and imagination are not only allowed, but encouraged and valued. Together with Ms Zhang and her colleagues, we have designed the space with the same attentiveness we put into designing our lessons and activities; we hope students will make good use of the new surroundings.
