A taste of what you get-- the script

Look no further than the example of Girls’ Generation, there are more than 5 elaborate scenes in one music video alone. Each video consists of short clips of dances and drama saturated with a plethora of props, backdrops, and costumes. These videos are so elaborate that one has difficulty looking away from it when watching. The videos are also filled with different bright colours to appeal to the teenage eyes.

A taste of what you get-- the comments

Task completion

  • The analysis of why K-pop is influential shows depth and insightful observation. For example, in the discussion of the music videos, there is not only comments about the production techniques but also how the techniques appeal to the young brain. Good knowledge about K-pop is evident with the reference to oppa, ‘kam-sah-mmi-da’, Running Man, etc.
  • The itinerary and arrangements are well-designed and demonstrate good knowledge of Korean pop culture. Particularly impressive are the reference to the Gangnam region, and having a host family with K-pop industry background. This is likely to be a very popular programme in real-life.
  • The tone is promotional and attractive. Description-rich and suggestive phrases like ‘Come eye-to-eye with some of the insiders of the K-pop culture and industry, have immersive encounters with the K-pop culture in events burst with characters and creativity’ are scattered around appropriately to arouse interest.

Vocab and grammar

  • Good use of a great variety of sophisticated vocabulary items, including phrases and expressions, correctly collocated, e.g. ‘saturated with a plethora of props’, ‘metrosexual’, ‘a wide spectrum’, ‘often seen using vulgar and offensive language’, and ‘there is something for everyone’ and ‘maintain good mannerism’
  • Good use of a great variety of sophisticated grammatical patterns, e.g. in this sentence alone: ‘These videos are so elaborate that one has difficulty looking away from it when watching’, a number of grammatical patterns are deployed: adjective pattern, clause as subject, gerund, complex sentence. In this phrase: ‘across Gangnam, promising to connect, inspire and delight through K-pop actions’, there is a participle phrase and the rule of three is used.

Organization and coherence

o      Each paragraph deals with a distinct aspect of the issue with little overlapping of ideas with a good use of subheadings to identify different sections of the article.

o      The summary offers an attractive recap of the highlights and encourages people to participate. The link shows clear grasp of genre knowledge and the situation.
